Introduction

Municipal Site Design was founded by Laura Wagner, a former Clerk/Treasurer for the Town of Greenbush in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Our purpose and goal is to substantially improve the standard of municipal Web sites and reduce development, operating, and promotional costs, while empowering non-technical municipal staff to update and manage their own Web sites. Laura combines her town government training and experience with nearly 10 years of Web development training and experience to provide the highest quality Web site design, focusing on the specific needs of small municipalities.

We understand the financial constraints of town and village board members striving to meet that fine balance between needed services and increased tax revenue. We also understand how valuable and convenient a Web site can be for local residents. While we believe every town and village should have a Web site to share information with its residents, we also believe that Web site should have a professional appearance and be a positive reflection of the municipality.

From us, the municipality receives a Web site that looks professional, functions properly, and provides valuable information to residents in a timely manner.

Consider the following uses of an official Town or Village Web site:

  1. A Town or Village Web site can be used as another official posting place for Class I or II notices. In most Towns and Villages, it could be the most convenient posting and will encourage resident participation.
  2. A Web site will reduce mailing expenses. Many Open Records requests can be downloaded from the site. Board members can also view upcoming agendas and previous months' minutes on the site, eliminating the need for mailings to them before each meeting.
  3. A Web site will save the Town or Village Clerk valuable time by providing automated services. Residents will quickly learn how much information is available to them, such as minutes, agendas, building permit forms or applications, election information and absentee ballot request forms.
  4. A Town or Village can also link to their County Web site and/or link to specific areas of the County site.
  5. Full ordinances, such as the Zoning ordinance can be uploaded to the site.
