Methodology

We start with a plan that is logical, organized and focused on the interests of municipalities. We then create an information structure and a design graphic. Upon approval of design and structure, development begins. Once the site is complete, we review it from many different angles to ensure maximum functionality in multiple browsers.

We recommend setting up a system that allows for expansion and flexibility in allowing the content of the site to grow. As part of our dynamic development methodology, we identify the following ingredients that make a successful web site.

Fast Loading

To adhere to Web standards, the site needs to be designed around the premise of loading as quickly as possible. To achieve this, we ensure a strong text base because text loads very quickly. When photographs or images are used, we will optimize them to ensure they load as quickly as possible.

Browser Compatibility

The site needs to be compatible for viewing across a wide range of user platforms and browser software. We will test the site with many different browsers to ensure that the vast majority of visitors can see the site quickly and easily.

Look

Design is much more than complimentary color schemes. Good design includes user-friendliness and ease of navigation. We use “don’t make me think” methodology to provide residents with easy-to-find information with the least possible clicks. If users have to search and run into “dead-ends”, they will leave the site, completely defeating the purpose of having a municipal site. A municipal site must be streamlined and concise, with a professional, business-like look.

Search Engine Placement

For your site to be found by search engines, it must be built properly with minimal code and a search engine friendly structure. It must also use key words and phrases efficiently to ensure the highest possible rankings. We create new sites with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in mind and can analyze an existing site for optimization and suggest code and key word changes.

Information Structure

A clear view of information and ease of navigation around the site is paramount in relation to finding specific information. To provide major benefit to users, information must be easily found and presented in such a way as to encourage use. In addition, the site must be designed so information can be quickly and easily updated.

Site Reporting

A hit counter and statistics application is added to all sites we create. In addition to finding out how many visitors go to a site, owners can obtain information on most visited pages, users’ Internet connection, the browsers they are using, the amount of time they spend at the site, and how they found the site.

Proposed Site Flow (subject to ongoing consultation)

The development of any Web site is an ever-changing process. The pages/sections listed below are a representation of a typical Town’s web site needs.

  1. Home Page – About the Town
  2. Town Officials/Contact Info
  3. Meeting Minutes/Agendas/Notices
  4. Ordinances
  5. Forms
  6. Newsletters
  7. Helpful Links
